McConnell was killed at Missionary Ridge on November 24, 1863. He rode out in
front of his regiment seeking the best placement of the regiment. He was shot

He
was elected Colonel of the 39th on March 2, 1862. It is reported
that he died of his wounds on December 1, 1863. This would be in line with his

Blackwell was elected 1st Lieutenant of Company H 8th
Georgia Infantry December 3 1861. He mustered out of the service May 1862. On
May 14 he was elected Captain of Company D of the 34th Georgia. He
