An Adam Farmer, a 24 year old from Blount County, Tennessee enlisted in Company A of the 3rd East Tennessee Calvary on August 2, 1862. This Calvary unit was in the Federal Army. Farmer was captured a Sulphur Branch Trestle in Alabama on September 25, 1864.  He was paroled at Vicksburg on April 21, 1865.
