Based on available evidence I believe this Dixon was a member of Company I of the 57^th Georgia Infantry. Robert D. Dixon travels 145 miles to enlist in Captain George W. Bishop’s company in Savannah on May 3, 1862. He was severely wounded through the hip at Vicksburg and disabled. It appears that he was in Vicksburg and surrendered with the city on July 4. He was paroled by Union Major Fry of the 2^nd Ohio July 15, 1863. In 1864 musters he is noted as being home on a surgeon’s certificate.
