This is a survey of the Hudson-Brown Family Cemetery near Locust Grove, Alabama using the Find A Grave memorial page for the cemetery. The cemetery page contains 24 memorials of which 92%  have been photographed. 


Description of Cemetery: This is an old cemetery with multiple stacked stone graves. Nine individuals were buried in the cemetery prior to the Civil War. There are two veterans of the War of 1812 buried here.

Thomas’ grave is marked with an iron Southern Cross of Honor. Thomas mustered  into serve on August 134, 1863 in Cedartown as a member of Captain Henry F. Wimberly’s Company in the Floyd Legion. This company became a calvary company in the Legion (Company G). This Legion operated out of Rome and was responsible for local defense.

Pinkney Arnston McBride enlisted in Company A, 56th Georgia Infantry Regiment on May 15, 1862. He was captured and patrolled at Vicksburg. The Atlanta Campaign Corporal McBride was wounded through the right hip June 22, 1864.

This is a survey of Dogwood Valley Cemetery in Catoosa County using the Find A Grave memorial page for the cemetery. The cemetery page contains 862 memorials and 90 % have been photographed.  I think I visited this cemetery many years ago and left without finding any Confederate solider markers.

William R Russell enlisted at Whitfield County, Georgia March1 19, 1862 in Company I of the 36th Georgia Volunteer Regiment. He rose in the ranks to 1st Lieutenant and was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled and returned to duty. During the Atlanta Campaign he was accounted for as being in a hospital near Lovejoy Station.

Hud York, Larkin York, and Jasper York were the sons of Josiah Cowan York & Sarah Virginia Blake. They enlisted in Company A of the 1st Georgia Calvary which was commanded by their brother William Thomas York. William was killed at Battle of Peachtree Creek in 1864.

Albert enlisted in western Tennessee in 1864. In October of 1864 a calvary skirmish occurred near the hamlet of Van Wert in Polk County, Georgia. Albert was in the line of battle and was killed near the church and was buried in the cemetery.
