Sergeant Mobley enlisted in Captain Jenkins Company in Fernandina, Florida in December of 1861. The company became a part of 1st Florida Infantry Battalion commanded by Colonel Holland and then Colonel Hopkins. In 1862 and 1863 the battalion served in the Florida panhandle and in Savannah, Georgia.  During this time Mobley rose in the noncommissioned ranks to 1st Sergeant. At the time of  October muster of 1863 he was sick in his quarters. His death is not recorded.  In 1864 the battalion became a part of the 10th Florida Infantry.
