Dr. Guin was the man for whom the town of Guin was named after he gave the railroad the right of way through his land, and negotiated a train stop there. He was a county physician, farmer, and business owner. Dr. Guin does not have a government issued marker. Information about this man is inscribed in a series of three panels in a brick monument.

Orlando enlisted in 1861 in Montgomery. He was detached as bugler for General Wheeler’s escort December 13, 1862. In 1864 he was still attached to the escort with this duty. After the war he was a respected doctor in Tallapoosa County.

He was captured at Missionary Ridge on November 25, 1863. He was transferred to Louisville, Kentucky and then to Rock Island Barracks in Illinois. Here he took the oath of allegiance to the United States in 1864.  Cemetery records indicate that he died in 1888.
