From a cursory search it appears that Burnett enlisted in an
independent cavalry company in Carrollton Georgia in 1862. In October of 1862
the 7th
Cavalry Regiment was formed by consolidating the 4th North Carolina Battalion
Partisan Rangers and seven independent Georgia cavalry companies. This unit was
known as Claiborne’s Partisan Rangers. This unit disbanded in 1864. Wesley B. Burnett ended the war
at Appomattox with the 7th Georgia Infantry.
