A Volunteer in Confederate Service
August 14, 1862




John enlisted in Company C of Moore’s Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers on April 1, 1862 in Aberdeen. This regiment became the 43rd Mississippi Infantry and John was elected 3rd Lieutenant of Company C, Whitfield Guards commanded by John W. Vesay. He died in hospital in Okolona, Mississippi, August 14, 1862. There is no record of cause of death.  He was married to Mary W. Holloway of Athens in Monroe County.

The following was found at Mississippi Confederate Grave Registry (http://mscgr.homestead.com/) on January 29, 2013. However, I found not other record of John T. Holloway serving in the 8th Mississippi.

Pvt. Littrell’s military record is preserved at 3-Fold. He enlisted in Company A of Gantt’s 9th Battalion of Tennessee Calvary. On March 16, 1864 he is recorded in a muster at Tunnel Hill, Georgia as sick in the hospital. Eli died and the Quartermaster Corp took charge of $6.25. There is a receipt from a Capt McLean for this amount. This is the final record for Eli Littrell.
