The tombstone at this cemetery is a cenotaph. Private Evans was wounded in the arm at the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 1, 1864. On June 3rd he arrived at Wayside Hospital in Richmond, Virginia where doctors amputated his arm. The arm became “mortified” and he died on June 23 in the Infirmary of St. Francis de Sales. He was buried at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.

Henry was wounded at Chancellorsville on May 2, 1863. A ball entered the middle third of his leg causing a compound fracture. On May 3rd doctors amputated the leg by circulated operation.

Hulsey was wounded at Shiloh when struck by a piece of shell. Even though he survived the wound he suffered great pain in his hip. He was eventually deemed disabled and discharged.

A member of the original Pickens Grays Aaron Hawkins was elected by his company as there Second Lieutenant on June 2, 1862. He was promoted to First Lieutenant by the end of the month. First Lieutenant Hawkins was killed at Chickamauga. Martin Luther Stancel, Colonel of the 41st Alabama, said that Hawkins fell while bravely leading his men on the works of the enemy. On the morning of September 20 Stancel’s regiment was in the line of battle in Helm’s Brigade of Breckinridge’s Division on Bragg’s right.

Isaac Gilbert 

Isaac Gilbert is thought to be buried in Redwine Cove Cemetery in an unmarked grave. He served in Company K of the 14th Georgia. He listed in 1862 and served until being captured at Petersburg. He was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, Maryland.
