Thomas William Wingo enlisted in the Confederate Army in Cumming, Georgia in 1862.  At some point he served as a musician in the regimental band. At Vicksburg he apparently was wounded and died. He is buried in Soldier’s Rest section of Cedar Hill the actual circumstances of Williams death is not clear. Cemetery in Vicksburg. His date of death is five days after the surrender of Vicksburg, so actual circumstances of Thomas’ death is not clear.

Jacob Taylor Chalker enlisted at Beaulieu near Savannah on March 2, 1863. He served in Company H of the 54th Georgia infantry.  It is reported that he was wounded in the right arm at Kennesaw Mountain on June 18, 1864. The circumstances of this wounding is not clear. The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain occurred about nine days after the 18th. It is likely that Chalker was wounded in the action at Latimer Farm (near present day Marietta Country Club) where Walker’s Division including Mercer’s Brigade and the 54th was in the line of battle next to French’s division when three Union divisions pushed attacked. Johnson was forced to move his troops toward Kennesaw Mountain.

This marker is a cenotaph. He served in Company D of the Infantry Battalion of Phillips’s Legion. He was admitted to General Hospital Number 16 in Richmond in late December and died of pneumonia on January 8, 1863. It is believed that he was buried in Confederate Section of Hollywood Cemetery.

Captain Turner served as the Captain of Company H, 23rd North Carolina Infantry. He was captured at Gettysburg in 1863. H was paroled and exchanged in 1864.

In 2014 his grave was marked with a Southern Cross of Honor. He volunteered for Confederate service a 1st Lieutenant off Company K of the 50th Georgia Infantry. He was severely wounded after the Battle of Antietam while engaged in holding a bridge. The wound to his face was som severe he was left on the field for dead. He was eventually nursed back to health and returned home to Brooks County.

In 2014 his grave was marked with the Southern Cross of Honor. 

Huxford reports that Sinclair was too old for line duty, but he served on Governor Brown’s staff during the war.

This is a survey of the Hudson-Brown Family Cemetery near Locust Grove, Alabama using the Find A Grave memorial page for the cemetery. The cemetery page contains 24 memorials of which 92%  have been photographed. 

Description of Cemetery: This is an old cemetery with multiple stacked stone graves. Nine individuals were buried in the cemetery prior to the Civil War. There are two veterans of the War of 1812 buried here.
