This marker is a cenotaph. He served in Company D of the Infantry Battalion of Phillips’s Legion. He was admitted to General Hospital Number 16 in Richmond in late December and died of pneumonia on January 8, 1863. It is believed that he was buried in Confederate Section of Hollywood Cemetery.

Cap John G McCall L.L.D.

In 2014 his grave was marked with a Southern Cross of Honor. He volunteered for Confederate service a 1st Lieutenant off Company K of the 50th Georgia Infantry. He was severely wounded after the Battle of Antietam while engaged in holding a bridge. The wound to his face was som severe he was left on the field for dead. He was eventually nursed back to health and returned home to Brooks County.

In 2014 his grave was marked with the Southern Cross of Honor. 

Huxford reports that Sinclair was too old for line duty, but he served on Governor Brown’s staff during the war.

Description of Cemetery: This is an old cemetery with multiple stacked stone graves. Nine individuals were buried in the cemetery prior to the Civil War. There are two veterans of the War of 1812 buried here.

Thomas’ grave is marked with an iron Southern Cross of Honor. Thomas mustered  into serve on August 134, 1863 in Cedartown as a member of Captain Henry F. Wimberly’s Company in the Floyd Legion. This company became a calvary company in the Legion (Company G). This Legion operated out of Rome and was responsible for local defense.

Pinkney Arnston McBride enlisted in Company A, 56th Georgia Infantry Regiment on May 15, 1862. He was captured and patrolled at Vicksburg. The Atlanta Campaign Corporal McBride was wounded through the right hip June 22, 1864.

William R Russell enlisted at Whitfield County, Georgia March1 19, 1862 in Company I of the 36th Georgia Volunteer Regiment. He rose in the ranks to 1st Lieutenant and was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled and returned to duty. During the Atlanta Campaign he was accounted for as being in a hospital near Lovejoy Station.

Hud York, Larkin York, and Jasper York were the sons of Josiah Cowan York & Sarah Virginia Blake. They enlisted in Company A of the 1st Georgia Calvary which was commanded by their brother William Thomas York. William was killed at Battle of Peachtree Creek in 1864.

Albert enlisted in western Tennessee in 1864. In October of 1864 a calvary skirmish occurred near the hamlet of Van Wert in Polk County, Georgia. Albert was in the line of battle and was killed near the church and was buried in the cemetery.
