On February 2, 1864 a twenty-seven year old William R Garrett volunteered his services as a blacksmith to the US Army in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He was assigned to Company H of the 12th Tennessee Calvary of the US Army.  He served as company blacksmith and farrier. There is also a U.S. Army pension record for a William R. Garrett  of Company H 12th Tennessee Calvary that died December 4, 1926.

Lieutenant Brindley was a member of Company B of Russell’s 4th Alabama Calvary. He was captured at Shelbyville Tennessee on June 27, `863. He was sent to Nashville, Louisville, Kentucky, Johnson Island, and Pt. Lookout, Maryland as a prisoner of war. On March 10, 1864 he was exchanged and then there was not another record.
