In April of 2021 three documents pertaining to Captain Kirkpatrick were auctioned for 250 dollars by Cowans (see below).

Lot of 3 items
KIRKPATRICK, William E. ALS, Kirks Grove, Cherokee County, AL, Sept 23, 1865. To Andrew Johnson, U.S. President. "I was a Country Post Master under the old government & simply transferred myself to the service of the Confederate government when that ...went into operation." He goes on to request amnesty to rejoin the United States. At the bottom of the letter is a recommendation for this. Kirkpatrick seems to have been drafted later. He enlisted as Captain in the 19th AL Infy.

Signed Oath of Amnesty, 10 August 1865. This was apparently sent in with the other papers.

PARSONS, Lewis E. Provisional Governor of Alabama. LS by Lewis Parsons to Andrew Johnson stating that he has examined Mr. Kirkpatrick's application and is of the opinion that he "will prove a good and loyal citizen." on Executive Department of Alabama letterhead, Montgomery, 9 Nov. 1865.
