David enlisted in the DeKalb Invincibles on June 16, 1861. In July David and his company became a part of the 12th Alabama Infantry in Richmond, Virginia. In January of 1862 David was in the Moore Hospital in Danville and transferred to General Hospital in Richmond.  He was diagnosed with catarrh. There is a record of his death on March 4, 1862.

The grave of Henry Baldwin was marked with a Southern Cross of Honor in 2017.  He was a member of Company C of the 41st Georgia Infantry. 

He was discharged from service in 1864 for health reasons.

Military records indicate that Chandler was wounded the leg in Virginia and spent some time in Howard’s Grove General Hospital in Richmond. He was transferred the General Hospital in Athens, Georgia in June and died at the Kingston Hospital.
