Keith originally enlisted as a private in Company E, 10th
Regiment Georgia State Troops December 16, 1861 and was detailed as a carpenter
at Miller's Wharf in Columbus, Georgia.
Records indicate that he re-enlisted in as a private the Cohutta Rangers March 19,
1862 at Spring Place in Murray County. This company became Company A of the 39th
Regiment Georgia Infantry. He was appointed 2nd Corporal April 12, 1862. Keith
was captured and paroled at Vicksburg in July 1863. H was killed at Jonesboro,
Georgia August 31, 1864 and was buried in the Patrick Cleburne Confederate
Cemetery.
