Samuel V. Price’s Find a Grave Memorial states that he served in Company H, 26th Georgia Infantry. There are no records of Price in National Archives Compiled Service records. For the 26th Georgia.  However, his name does appear the 26th Tennessee Infantry/1st Georgia Infantry Memorial on the Chickamauga battlefield. This company was captured at Fort Donelson and sent to the POW camp at Camp Douglas. Eventually it was exchanged and reorganized as a part of the First Georgia Infantry. Samuel was a member of Captain J.C. Gordon’s Company raised at Crawfish Springs, Georgia in April of 1861. The company traveled to Knoxville as a part of the 3rd East Tennessee Infantry and became Company H of the 26th Tennessee Infantry. Samuel name actually appears on a detachment of the 26th Tennessee whom escaped from Fort Donelson.

William Newton Garmany’s Find a Grave Memorial states that he served in Company E, 6th Battalion, Georgia State Guards. William enlisted in Captain J.C. Hall’s Company of Cuberson’s Battalion of Calvary for six months of local defense serve on August 1 1863. Captain hall’s company was designated Company E and Cuberson’s Battalion became known as the 6th Battalion of Calvary, Georgia State Guards.  Garmany provided his own horse and saddle valued at over 300 dollars.

William was the son of Richard Morgan and Mahana Wyatt. In 1915 the Commissioner of Pensions received the following from the Adjutant General McCain: The records show that William Morgan, private, Co D, 39th Georgia, Infantry, C.S.A. , enlisted March 4, 1862; that he was captured at Champion Hill May 16, 1863, and exchanged at City Point, Va, July 6, 1865, and that he deserted November 22, 1863. No later record of him has been found. 

He appears on registers of prisoners at Camp Morton in Indianan and Fort Delaware in Delaware before being exchanged.

Reuben died October 2, 1862. According to the Commissioner of Pensions in 1915 Reuben did not appears on any rolls of the company. Company G of the 5th was raised in Schley County. There was a Reuben Massey in Cobb’s Legion, but he died in Arkansas in 1865.

John W. Glenn and wife Eliza lived in a cabin on a hill near the Wilder Tower monument on the Chickamauga battlefield.  John left for with the 39th Georgia and died in a Mobile, Alabama hospital some time in 1863.  When battle began in September of 1863 along Chickamauga Creek Union General Rosecrans established his headquarters in the Widow Glenn’s cabin. She and son Avery found their way south to her fathers house near this church. The last night of the battle the cabin caught fire and burned to the ground. The widow Glenn never returned to her and John’s home place. She married W.B. Crumpton. Both are also buried here with John.

Capt. Harrison Tillinghast

Killed at Battle of Antietam, Md. 

From his Find-A Grave memorial:

Harrison Tillinghast, son of George W. Tillinghast and Mary Ann Chapman, was born in Florida, on September 1, 1840, and was killed at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on September 17, 1862. He enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant on May 10, 1861 in Company F, 2nd Florida Infantry Regiment. Harrison was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on May 11, 1862. He was wounded at Seven Pines, Virginia, on May 31, 1862. He was promoted to Captain, posthumously, on October 10, 1862. He is not buried in Riverside, but a stone marks his memory.

Harrison was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at the University of Virginian in 1860.  When his parents died, he left school and came home to Florida. He mustered in as Second Lieutenant and was wounded in action at the  Battle of Seven Pines. He replaced Captain Pooser who was killed June 1, 1862. At Sharpsburg he was lost in the battle and presumed dead. 

In the Maryland Campaign the 2nd Florida was brigaded under General Roger Pryor with the 8th Florida, 14th Alabama and the 3rd Virginia. This brigade was one of six brigades in the division of Richard Anderson. At Antietam the regiment had six men killed and 43 wounded. How Captain Tillinghast is not known, but his fraternity records that his body was never recovered.

Robert Dickson has two markers in the cemetery. Two men named Robert Dickson are in Company D, 6th Florida Infantry. Both are recorded as having died June 24, 1862. One is listed as a Sergeant and the other as a second Lieutenant.

Brogdon enlisted in a local company known as Robinson’s Club Clavary. The company was in under the command of Captain George Robinson in 1864. Brogdon was killed in the Battle of Marianna. Dale Cox located records that stat that Brogdon died of disease while in a Marianna Hospital in December 1863.

Hentz,Thaddeus W. Gamble's Light Artillery. The 30-year old dentist 

was also a member of a company of state artillery reservists. Suffering 

the loss of a finger during the fighting, he was captured and 

imprisoned at New Orleans, Ship Island and Elmira. Hospitalized during 

his stay at Elmira, he was released on March 2, 1865. Again 

hospitalized at a Confederate hospital in Richmond, Virginia, until 

March 14, 1865, he returned home and resumed his dentistry practice.

Bush served in Norwood Company of Home Guards known as the Cradle to Grave Militia. Hw as local judge and an adviser to Governor John Milton.

Bush, Allen Henry. Fifty-five years old, Bush was the local circuit 

judge and had been a practicing Marianna attorney since the early 

1840's. Imprisoned at New Orleans, Ship Island and Elmira, he returned 

home after the war and resumed his law practice. Judge Bush was 

delegated to the ill-fated state constitutional convention on October 

25, 1865, and was listed a year later as being friendly to the 

Carpetbaggers then controlling local politics.

Carter enlisted May 2, 1862. He was wounded in the Battle of Chickamauga. Furloughed after being wounded he returned to Florida. His military record ends there, but his service did not. He was discharged but when war came to Florida he was serving in Norwood’s Cradle to Grave militia. After the battle his family found his body in the burned St. Lukes church. He was probably wounded in battle and brought to the church. Armstrong Purdee was an eyewitness to the burning of the church by Union soldiers. He reported that they shot down men as they exited the church.

Carter, John C. A private in Company E., 6th Florida Infantry, Carter 

was given a medical discharge after being wounded at Chickamauga, but 

volunteered for service. Twenty-two years old, he was killed in the 

fighting and his body burned in St. Luke's Church.

Littleton mustered into Captain Richard Smith’s Dragoon Company May 3, 1862 in Jackson County. In 1863 the company became a part of Company H, 15th Florida Calvary. He disappeared from the companies muster rolls in summer of 1863. During the Battle of Marianna he was killed. He father was a local politician and an Unionist.

Enlisted in Company A, 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment on 11 May 1861 at Abbeville, Alabama by A. C. Gordon for 12 months, mustard out on the 16th as a private, and was promoted to 1st Sergeant of Company K. Stephen was killed at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on 17 Sep 1862.
