Benjamin Pickett enlisted in Captain Seawright's calvary company with his own horse in March of 1862. This company became Company D of the 1st Georgia Calvary Regiment. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant of the company August 5, 1862. In the winter he was absent because he was sick and furloughed. Back in service in the Fall he was mortally wounded early in the Battle of Chickamauga on or near Reed's Bridge road where Pegram's Calvary skirmished dismounted with Croxton's Brigade. Is is said that he was wounded leading a charge and died later in the day nine a hospital near Jay's Mill. His body was sent home to be buried at New Hope. In less than a year Pickett's grave would be in full view of combatants during the Battle of Hew Hope Church.

Harman has two Confederate gravestones. He was likely from Tallapoosa or Montgomery, Alabama and he was killed at New Hope. I cannot find any record of his service.
Silas G Grooms

8th Arkansas Infantry
Confederate
Silas was a farmer from Liberty Township in Independence County, Arkansas. He enlisted in Captain Floyd's Company in the 8th Arkansas Infantry on September 10, 1861. This company would soon become Company C of the regiment. Silas spent a good bit of time absent from the regiment due to sickness. In August of 1863 he was present at the August muster, but he had lost his cap box and belt. As a part of Govan's Brigade of Cleburne's Division it is likely that Silas took part in the Battles of Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and Ringgold Gap in 1863 and winter into winter quarters at Dalton. His record s state that he was killed in action May 23, 1864 at New Hope Church. The actual Battle of New Hope Church occurred on may 25. Cleaburn's Division was not involved in this clash. Two days later and a couple of miles away. Silas' regiment would be in the line of Battle at Picket Mill.
